a holiday

Since December 23rd Bean has been off work. He’ll return to work Monday 16th January, with a new employer. Originally he’d booked just next week off. He was supposed to work all days except public holidays between Christmas time and new year and the first week of January but his ex-employer is so quiet he asked Bean to take the extra time off. Lucky really, since Bean had planned to find alternative employment anyway. The job hunting took just one day, he cold called about a job that morning and was offered a job that afternoon.

Since this time off wasn’t planned, and has been organised a day at a time we haven’t really gone anywhere far from home. We’ve had a lovely Summer staycation here on the south coast, although some days the only hint it’s Summer has been the sunflowers in bloom! We’ve spent some time together, just regrouping and celebrating the end of Bean’s apprenticeship and we’ve spent some time with friends just a little way from our home. I had thought having all of us in the little shed a lot more than we normally are would drive me up the wall, but it’s been ok really. I’m pretty sick of it now, and I have a pretty short fuse because of it, but we’re about to have one week’s holiday from the little shed which is just perfect timing really.

Tomorrow we’re heading to sunny Perth. We’re looking forward to catching up with family and spending as much time with them as we can in the time we’re there. It’s particularly exciting to be visiting this time because aside from seeing the family who live in Perth we’ll be seeing my older sister and her family there too, they don’t live in Perth either so it’s great timing that we’ll all be there next week. Bean is looking forward to seeing my brother-in-law, I’m looking forward to seeing my sister, and the sproggets are excited to play with their cousins.

Tonight we’re packing clothes, road trip snacks (savoury muffins, popcorn, local cherries and local macadamias), and other random assorted things we think we need to take and hopefully all having a very early night before we set off at sparrow fart tomorrow.

See you on the Perth side. What a week we have planned!

happy new year… we’re still here

Hi folks! I hope 2012 has been off to a fabulous start for you all, it certainly has been for us.

We have some fantastic news.

Bean is now a licensed sparky! The apprenticeship is officially over and his licence is in his hot little hands. It truly is a wonderful gift to begin 2012 with, so many more opportunities lay ahead of us today than we had imagined just one year ago.

What a rollercoaster ride 2011 was! I probably say that every year, but 2011 really was a test and here we are on the other side of it… Still together, still ok, and much happier.

Bean’s boss called him Friday afternoon just before the Christmas weekend and asked him if he’d mind taking the week between Christmas and new year off, Bean agreed and so that’s why I’ve posted diddly squat since Christmas day. Tomorrow is the last day Bean has off before returning to work for a four day week, then another week of holidays. That’s my idea of a good work/life balance – 17 days off and four days on every 3 weeks!

Anyway, back to last week…

It was a big week. Moe turned two (more on that in a post to come), we had the second meeting of the Denmark Natural Learner’s (more on that in another post to come), we had hot beach days and we had rainy, cardigan wearing days. I discovered a new hobby that’s been occupying my evenings and keeping me from the computer (you guessed it, more on that in yet another post to come) and we’ve spent a lot of time chilling out together, just enjoying the slow days.

It was really lovely to have Bean home. When he’s home I’m not outnumbered by the sproggets and he’s pretty fun to hang out with anyway!

So, our little break has almost come to an end which is a bit sad, but oh how lovely it’s been. I’m feeling refreshed and ready to take on the awesomeness that will be 2012.

Happy, happy new year to you all.

From late December to early January Bean was on leave from work.

I feel that we wasted the time a bit, we spent too much time building a cubby house that didn’t end up costing less than buying a flat pack cubby house would have, and it still isn’t completely finished. It will be cooler than a flat pack, and much bigger, so I suppose it’s not all bad, though I really wish we’d gone with the easy option and spent more time relaxing at the beach and going on other outings.

One day, toward the end of his leave, the children & I were speaking with my sister on Skype & The Bubble told my sister,

“We’re on holidays, which means my Daddy can stay home all day and cuddle me.”

Cue my heart breaking! She is very, very attached to her Dad. More so since Babyman has joined the family & I’ve had to ask her to wait for my attention while I breastfeed, change nappies, rock to sleep etc. Bean can do these things too, excepting the breastfeeding, but given that I am the primary carer of our children, I still have to ask The Bubble to wait, and that is hard for her and for me.

When Bean had to go back to work The Bubble was very upset. It took her a few days to come to terms with it, and she is still behaving in a fairly challenging manner which I believe is to do with returning to our regular routine of Bean being at work and the rest of us getting on with our week days without him.

Anyway, I chose not to blog during Bean’s leave because there was too much to blog about and not enough time to blog about it!

Maybe I’ll try a couple of catch up posts, and maybe I won’t. We’ll see…
